My name is Enmanuel (The Last Emcee) and I am a co-founder of The Peace Poets. In this poem, I explore and express the anger in being impacted and oppressed by colonialism, slavery and the contemporary power structures that uphold white supremacy. This piece connects our modern day struggle against anti Black racism to the story of Jesus, reminding us that Jesus was also killed by the state and blamed for his own death, just like many other Black and brown people in the United States. Like Pontius Pilate many people in power in the United States have washed their hands of the blood and suffering of Black people. This poem is for clarity and for remembering.
